The October 2024 issue of The Atlantic features a cover image that succinctly captures the reality of today’s Republican Party. It is an image of a mendacious conman and clown in a red hat riding a circus wagon toward Washington, D.C., while an elephant is trapped in the back of the wagon. Recently, Mango Mussolini labeled the GOP the Party of Common Sense. Tee hee.
If you maintain any semblance of romanticism or nostalgia for the one-time “Party of Ideas,” it is time to face the harsh reality. The Republican Party no longer has intellectuals and high-minded thinkers in its ranks. It has devolved into a party of “weirdos.” (Thank you Tim Walz.)
The party of Eisenhower and Reagan is dead. It has been consumed by the cancer of Trumpism and MAGA. Cancer has a single objective, replicate and destroy. MAGA and the far-right, Christofascist Talibangelicals have taken over the party and the goals are to remake it in ‘their’ image of a Jesus-nation theocracy. It is aggravating, the nerve of these jackals to call themselves Conservative. They have shit all over anything remotely resembling Conservatism. Fuck you, jackals.
Oh sure, let’s gloss it over with George Will, one of the nation’s last Conservatives. In a post-debate article he says: “A Harris presidency, tempered by a Republican-led Senate, might finally revive a more normal politics.” Where he posted this ridiculously stupid nugget: “…the election of Harris, and of a Republican Senate to regularly remind her that most Americans disagree with most of what she believes.” He cannot possibly believe the ‘most Americans’ bullshit, can he? The reality is, the current 49 GOP Senators ‘represent’ about 37 percent of ‘Americans.’ Let’s say they end up with 51 in 2025. They will still ‘represent’ only 38 percent of ‘Americans.’ George might be a Conservative, but he is really shitty with the “maths”.
The Talibangelicals
Project 2025 is the roadmap of the The Council for National Policy. The CNP is, quite literally, a centuries long effort to return the church to power. There is a reason the Vatican is decorated in gold and jewels…and the church has never been able to process their loss of power over the masses. Once Copernicus informed us that we did not, in fact, represent the center of the universe (with the Sun going around us) it was lights out for the church. “Down with Polymaths!”
The CNP was born in 1981, and Reagan got cozy with them but never gave them the full reach around. Then it was decades of the Moral Majority, the Christian Coalition and a parade of far-right freaks, jackals and weirdos (AKA: “Ministers”)…many of whom eventually were outed for frequenting gay bars while at the same time railing about the ‘sins’ of homosexuality.
Let’s face it, if you genuinely believe that you were born with ‘original sin,’ then you are primed for cults. Thus, the path from believing in invisible sky friends is not very far to reach GEOTUS (God Emperor of the United States), strongman, messiah, “Cyrus?,” and wearing a “Jesus is my Savior/Trump is my President” t-shirt. Across the country, “Evangelical” churches are running, TAX FREE!, political rallies from the pulpit and prophesying about how a complete fraud, conman, clown and amoral piece of shit human being is going to save ‘our country.’
Original Sin
The author Edward Hays has written that the only original sin is righteousness. The “My shit doesn’t stink” crowd finds it easy to worship a syphilitic freak with clown makeup and a dead ferret on his head and point their fingers at “them,” the bad people, the ‘evil’ ones, consumed by Satan, blah, blah, fucking blah. Autocrats amp up the gullible-minded weirdos with hate and fear, almost always with immigrants. Although, any student of history can tell you that the road to ANY conspiracy ALWAYS begins and ends in antisemitism.
The past two weeks has been Haitians eating dogs and cats and, if I don’t win, blame the Jews. If you read Anne Applebaum or Ruth Ben-Ghiat, you will see that every single dictator has used the same tired old playbook. Indoctrinate the religious freaks and feed them fear that their lives are being threatened by some imaginary enemy. Again, when you believe in sky friends, you are an easy mark for this shit. In Heather Cox Richardson’s latest book: Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America she outlines the history of Conservatism and perversion of MAGA.
Where Have You Gone Georgia Democracy? A Nation Turns Its Lonely Eyes to You.
Compare this two-bit racist bullshit to the Republican Party platform of 1956. Here you will find a deep embrace of immigrants and their vital role in the creation of a country by, of and for the people. Or, go back to Ronald Reagan’s farewell speech, when the Great Communicator extoled the strength and beauty of America due to its being a nation of immigrants. “We lead the world because, unique among nations, we draw our people — our strength — from every country and every corner of the world. And by doing so we continuously renew and enrich our nation.”
Compare this Republican Party to the shameless, un-Christian, crop of weirdos. That party is gone. There is a section of the center right that currently lives in a fantasy that a post-Trump world will be the opportunity to ‘rebuild the party’ and remake it in a true Conservative movement. Not gonna happen. Wake up. Just look at the state of Georgia, where Trump’s hand-picked election reps have created a complete shitshow, whereby it will be impossible to certify the election.
The Whigs
If the USA is lucky enough to reach a ‘post-Trump’ era, the Republican Party is gone. Don’t blame Trump, blame Mitch McConnell. McConnell had the opportunity to rally his coalition in 2021 and impeach Trump and keep him from ever being a part of the party. McConnell failed, miserably.
More likely, the true Conservatives will cede the party to the MAGA and religious freaks and go the way of the Whigs. The Whigs were formed in a similar environment, where a racist demagogue (Jackson) was attempting to make himself a king, and autocrat, a dictator.
While the Whigs were able to create a power base, any current attempt to bring in traditional Republicans to a new party will result in yet another party that will be unable to win a national election. (Republicans have won only one national election since 1988).
The failure of McConnell has left the conman demagogue to control the party. The only way ‘in’ to the party now is to kiss the ring of the Dear Leader. This eliminates any normal human from being a party member. Only the super freaks and weirdos can win primaries in this environment. As a result, you have a party of weirdos. Do you honestly think Ronald Reagan could win a primary in today’s Republican Party? He would be kicked to the curb and labeled a “Libtard.”
Look no further than North Carolina and their Republican candidate for governor, Mark Robinson. All it took for this guy to be nominated was loyalty to the cult leader. As was demonstrated in the September 10th debate, Trump is so easily manipulated. Two things. One: How easy it is for the world’s dictators to cozy up to Trump by simply flattering him. Two: How quickly the ‘Evangelicals’ rallied to Robinson’s defense after learning that he spent his days posting vile, vulgar, depraved and racist comments on a porn site.
For the Win
The country needs a healthy center-right party. There is a contingent of the ‘left’ that feels that the current environment that has birthed The Bulwark, The Lincoln Project, etc., is ‘making the Democrat Party into the Republican Party.’ For real. Question though, “Is this a bad thing?”
It is true, the Democrat Party of 2024 is probably the closest thing to an Eisenhower Administration than literally ANY Republican Party platform of the past 20+ years. While this is healthy for the country, having a diseased and sick right is not acceptable. We cannot solve real problems while one side is talking about tax rates and the other about lizard people eating babies.
It will be up to a shrinking coalition of people who care about the health of the country, the Constitution, and democracy in general to attempt to build a healthy center right party. To that effort are the likes of Liz and Dick Cheney, Adam Kinsinger (Country Over Party), and the growing ranks of, shall we call them, ‘former Republicans’ who have abandoned ship and are lining up to support a Harris/Walz ticket. There will NEVER be a healthy center-right party until the true Conservatives are willing to abandon The Council for National Policy.
“The time for choosing we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz. The choice between truth and lies demands support for Harris-Walz,” the former officials wrote. “The choice between freedom and suppression of freedoms means support for Harris-Walz.”
Integrity? Har de har har. Guffaw. A real knee-slapper there! The CNP does not believe in democracy, they believe democracy is a failed experiment. In their Holy War, only One Tin Soldier gets to ‘ride away.’ In His Name, of course.

Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
Justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day
On the bloody morning after
One tin soldier rides away
