There is not a lot of distance between unscrupulous and mentally unfit. Even less between mentally unfit and emotionally crippled. We are witnessing the crazy, the insanity, the ‘going off the rails’ that happens when malignant narcissists pretend as if they know what they are doing. How do you bankrupt a casino? You know who doesn’t like ‘going off the rails on the crazy train?’ Wall Street, that’s who. If you want to know how far this will go, keep an eye on the stock market. Bond yields are back to the July highs and the Nasdaq is lower than it was the day after election day. The markets do not care about CRT, ‘trans,’ or ‘furries.’ The markets crave consistency.
It is important to note here that the US 4th Estate isn’t the only failing institution. Respected media such as the Financial Times and The Economist are still “Sanewashing” the Crazy Train of the ‘cabinet’ selections. If they begin to get honest about how totally freaking insane this clown show is, look out below.
Nothing But Blue Skies
Since November 6th, the platform Bluesky has seen millions of users signing up as they flee Twitter (XChan) as “X” has devolved into a cesspool of pro Putin, Neo-Nazi propaganda and vile, misogynist assholery. Elmo’s spending $119 million on the election of T***p doesn’t help his reach for users. His pronouncement to advertisers to “Go Fuck Yourself” is the type of strategic move that only a serious “genius” businessman would deploy. After all, if the advertisers flee XChan, “…everybody on Earth will know.” Again, a real Poindexter here.
At this juncture, SubStack and BlueSky may be the few places to get real, unfiltered media. Independent media is going to be critical going forward. The large corporate newspapers and news stations are collapsing. The business models they have used are broken and their effort to ‘both sides’ the 2024 election have resulted in failure. While the right-wing ecosphere exploded in the past four years (aided by Russia), CNN saw its viewership halve from 2020 to 2024.
The Meidas Touch Network outpaced YouTube views more than any other ‘media outlet,’ including Faux Noise and Megyn Kelly. 22-year-old Adam Mockler has over 700K subscribers to his channel. Adam is smart, well-spoken and extremely detailed in his presentations. He is one GenZ-er who was not “left behind.” Another source that has become a force is Brian Tyler Cohen, now at almost 3.5M subscribers.
This isn’t to say that emerging apps and independent media are all going to lean left, but there needs to be some push back against the plethora of far-right media and Christian Nationalist broadcasting. Call this “Pro-Democracy” media, and while it is allowed to exist, it needs to get a foothold here. Genuine sanity versus sanewashing is paramount to the country.
Lords Valley versus Citizens United
I remember at around age twelve, we took a road trip from Chicago to Lords Valley, Pennsylvania to visit the back country where mom grew up. When we entered her childhood home, there was an 8x10, black and white photo of FDR in the family room. I don’t think anyone in the 1930s drove around in pickup trucks with ten-foot FDR flags on the back, but they loved FDR because he brought some prosperity to those rural areas of the nation with the Rural Electrification Act and the WPA during The Great Depression.
As Heather Cox Richardson points out in Democracy Awakening, the backlash to FDR created what came to be known as Movement Conservatism. Remember it was Lincoln who took over the reins from the Whigs as the only true conservative because of his loyalty to the founding documents.

It is important to point out that Movement Conservatism is not “being a Conservative.” It was formed as a backlash against the government being used to help the nation’s people. There was no “Liberal Order” at the time, just a man (FDR) determined to stand up to the big monied influencers and the burgeoning military and argue that government money should be used to better the country. These were and are the America First individuals and their arguments have remained the same for 80-90 years.
Since 1971 and The Powell Memorandum, America has been handed over the most elite corporate interests. In 2010, Powell’s wet dream became Citizens United and since then the country has been sold to the highest bidders. This is the main reason that the only legislation Republicans have passed since the Eisenhower era is tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy…and has resulted in a massive transfer of wealth to the top one percent…not to mention an exploding federal deficit.
It is called the “GINI Coefficient” and it is global, not just endogenous to the United States.

Remember this when Elmo and Vivek begin slashing programs and spitting on FDR’s grave. Remember this when the people in the clown show walk away with wheelbarrows full of cash. The tight ties to Russia are no accident. Putin and Orban have been training these people in the ways of Oligarchy. They already are fantastic grifters, this is just the icing on the cake.
The first few months of 2025 will be insane. At least the country will only have a Dictator for one day!
